PROJECT OUTLINE

This project is a speculative redesign of Bon Bon Bakery, a local bakery located in Federal Way, Washington. The bakery offers a variety of healthy baked goods such as breads, pastries, cakes, and sweet treats, serving as an everyday neighborhood spot for quick purchases and small indulgences. The goal of this project is not to replace the existing business, but to explore how its brand identity could be reimagined to better reflect the emotional and sensory experience of its products.

THE PROBLEM

Bon Bon Bakery currently uses a highly functional storefront identity that prioritizes visibility over expression. While effective for attracting attention, the branding does not fully communicate the warmth, softness, and comfort associated with baked goods. As a real, local business, this creates an opportunity to explore how a more intentional and emotionally driven identity could strengthen its presence.

THE PROCESS

I studied the existing storefront in Federal Way to understand its current visual language and how it communicates to customers, then explored baked goods as symbols of comfort, indulgence, and everyday joy to guide the emotional direction of the redesign. From this, I developed a concept centered on softness, tactility, and playfulness, which informed the creation of rounded, inflated typography paired with a softer, more distinctive color palette.

THE OUTCOME

The outcome is a speculative rebrand that transforms Bon Bon Bakery into a more expressive, memorable, and emotionally engaging brand. The redesigned identity better reflects the experience of eating baked goods, soft, sweet, and joyful, while creating a stronger visual presence. By reimagining a real neighborhood bakery, the project highlights how design can elevate everyday places into something more meaningful and connected to people’s experiences.
